Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero (born Patricia Apollonia Kotero) is an American actor, singer, and former model. Her most famous work is the star of Prince's 1984 Purple Rain film and lead singer in the girl-group Apollonia 6 It was among the many female artists that benefited from Prince's association throughout the 1980s. She was born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her work started as a model and actress towards the end of the 1970s including an appearance on the television show CHiPS. In 1984, she was the role of the lead female for Prince's Purple Rain (during which time she altered her name) and replaced Vanity as a member of the female group Vanity 6 performing with them in the movie with the title Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter, the group's minor smash hit from the soundtrack was her greatest chart hit. After a disagreement regarding the direction she was taking in her career Apollonia 6 split up and Kotero ended her association with Prince. She then appeared in a few minor films in the 1980s (reportedly declining an opportunity to play in the Purple Rain-follow-up Under the Cherry Moon) prior to settling for an evening-time part in the dramatic Falcon Crest in 1985-1986. Apollonia began her professional debut in 1988. However, the album of R&B/dance that was pretty pedestrian and didn't make a big impression with people who were buying music at that period, was quickly wiped out. The following decade saw she continued to be active as an actress (if a little off the radar), with minor film roles, television appearances and even an exercise film. Apollonia made a bilingual CD called Stay with Me in 1997. In later years, after going back to college and obtaining the degree of filmmaking, she formed her production company.
